John, Savages did not come with external fuel filters stock. If you have one some one has added it. The may be a strainer on the fuel pickup in the tank, but I do not have the book her in the house to look. Be sure ans check the vacuum line that opens the fuel valve once the engine has started, any cracks can cause the signal to the vacumm diaphram to be weak and not open it all the way. Also try switching to prime, lever back, when you think it is runnning out of fuel, that opens the valve manually and can be used for diagnosis. If it is an aftrmarket one, usually they work OK in my experience, but they might even flow slow on the bottom part of the tank when the head pressure would be lowest. Happy checking.
